First and foremost, Vik Venkatraman, David Hirschman, and the entire Blueprint team deserve kudos for a terrific inaugural event. Blueprint 2021 was fantastic and we're thrilled to be back to live events. It's hard to believe that our humble Future of Real Estate tech summit that started in Wynwood in January 2018 has turned into a major national conference with nearly 1000 delegates in its first year! The conference began with an interview of Carey Armstrong from Tomo, which just raised a $70M seed round to disrupt the mortgage market. Douglas Elliman CEO Scott Durkin spoke about how his company is embracing innovation, noting how the real estate agent is still central to the transaction, “back in the 90’s we were told that the real estate agent was going to disappear, yet here we are in 2021.” The plenary session closed with a fascinating panel hosted by Eric Feder of Len-X (the Lennar Homes CVC) featuring the CEOs of proptech unicorns Hippo, Doma, and Blend.
Our very own Tigre Wenrich participated in a panel 'Searching for Diamonds in Early-Stage Proptech' that we will be sharing highlights from in the coming weeks; here's what Propmodo had to say about it. For additional event coverage, check out these articles from Placetech and Business Insider.
Our team got to press the flesh with many startup founders and VC co-investors we had previously only met over Zoom. We also reconnected with old friends and made many new connections. We even found a couple of very promising new startups which we may be investing in over the coming months. All in all it was a great event and we are already looking forward to next year; if you're only half as interested in PropTech as we are, you should put Blueprint 2022 on your calendar!
